Staple Fashion for Every Woman

After I reviewed the new trends for spring a few weeks ago, I started thinking, while trends come and go, what essentials do today’s fashionistas need? The answer is oh so very simple, go back to basics, as they can really make or break any outfit and add to your look for any occasion. So here we go, hold on to your hats, (they always come back into fashion anyway) here is a brief rundown of all the accessories you need this season.

Cover Up

Whether you’re going for this spring’s bright, vibrant colours, or experimenting with something a bit more cool and minimalist, then you’ll need a decent jacket to keep you covered, and the blazer is a fashion staple that has just kept coming back over the years. From last winter’s tuxedo jackets, to the much more edgy 80s power jacket look, complete with shoulder pads, a good blazer can refresh any outfit, from a tea dress to jeans and boots.

Step Back in Time

It’s official, the 70s are back. In fashion, that is. Thin, loose, flowing, flowery fabrics, maxi dresses and earthy colors, such as browns, beiges and tan. The maxi dress is just one item that has managed to stand the test of time and can look good in any situation, from on the beach to in the club, a maxi dress suits all body shapes, from the apple to the pear. Buy one in a neutral color and team it up with a plain blazer for a smarter look for the office.

Preppy Makes Perfect

This spring, the flirty fifties’ silhouette meets all American college girl. Expect reds, blues, whites teamed up with girly lace trimmed tops and pale denim. Get yourself a statement contrast or varsity cardigan and team it up with a pair of men’s designer jeans (or even high street jeans) that you’ve borrowed from your boyfriend for the ultimate casual preppy look.

80s Theme Party - What do you Wear?

What I love about this time of the year - besides the joyful spirit and all the presents!!! - is that December is the month of holiday parties and various theme parties!

One of the most popular themes are the one that celebrate the fashion eras, such as for example, the 80’s. These types of theme parties are so classic by now but I noticed that there are many gaps in the way people dress. This is why I wanted to give you a few tips on what to wear on an 80’s inspired theme party and what options you have to create these types of looks.

As usual, location and audience are key, so even if you end up celebrating at home with a bunch of friends or you share the event with your co-workers or with lots of other people in a club, there is a wide selection of looks you can try and that will make you look like an 80’s star, powerful career woman or a shiny disco queen!

One of the biggest inspiration for pulling off an 80’s inspired outfit is to do some research and to be aware of what happened back then. What was the world like, what inspired people? A good starting point would be the entertainment industry. Music and movies are such a big part of this scene because most of the influential entertainers in the music industry and in the movies were ‘born’ in the 80s.

What were the idols and the icons of the 80’s?

Think about icons such as Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, George Michael, Michel Jackson or Whitney Houston. They all had a remarkable influence on fashion and on the entire 80s world. Fashion and style movements revolved around the new disco beats and break-dance moves and the famous Michael Jackson moonwalk dance.

It was an era of freedom and excess, color, volume, and overwhelming shine. One of the best examples are the statement items of those times : leather jackets, over-sized shoulder pads, tight acid washed jeans, lace gloves, shiny leggings, colorful headbands, funky leg-warmers and sexy colorful heels. All of these are now worn in minimal doses, but back then,  you tried to wear as many of them in a single outfit, which made the entire look very “in-your-face”.

If you want to get the perfect 80s look you need to choose a them and go for it.

The Work-Out Gear

The “work out” gear became massive because of the work-out video tapes and the “Let’s get physical” types of songs. Leg-warmers and neon leggings are a must to get the feel of this look. Don’t be afraid to wear loose tops or even cut-our sport gloves, they are all part of the outfit. The leotard can also be a good option if you have enough guts to wear it. You can always make it less tacky by choosing some opaque tights under it.

The Music Diva - Madonna

I think Madonna is the most powerful woman icon when it comes to 80’s style influences. You can never go wrong by having her as an inspiration, just take any video from back then and make your outfit feel adorned with lace, leather, excessive jewelry or heavy makeup. Use a headband and keep your hair big and wavy. Leggings and bustier type tops may also come in handy when you want to get an 80s look, so you could consider them as well.

Preppy Inspiration

The Preppy Outfit can be easily achieved nowadays when we have constant inspirations! The style has actually never left the scene and you can notice that many of the statement preppy items are still very much into nowadays fashion. The classic preppy style is usually based on white and navy but you can make it more fun and party-like by choosing a Lacoste polo or a Polo polo in a brighter color such as pink or light-blue. You can wear it with a pair of khaki pants or a plaid wrap skirt.

Cardigans are also very cool for an 80s preppy look! You ca go for a longer and looser one or for a more structured Chanel type cardigan. Cashmere work just fine as well, but choose a simple sweater and tie it around your shoulders on top of your Polo T-shirt, just like you were going for a tennis practice. As for shoes and accessories, all these items work very nicely with ballet flats or over the knee stockings. White sneakers are also a way to highlight the white and navy striped look. Put a headband and keep hair and makeup natural.

For extra tips you can definitely check out season 1 and 2 from Gossip Girl, most of the classic preppy outfits are well highlighted there.

Hey Cheerleader! Hey Mickey!

The Cheerleader concept was very hip back in the 80s. You can get inspired by so many videos and movies but I think that the song that generated the biggest buzz was “Hey Mickey -You’re So Fine You Blow My Mind” by Toni Basil.  The Cheerleader idea was much more about sport back then, nothing too sexy but rather liberated and energetic. The classic cheerleader costume is all about the mathcing pleated short skirt, skin-tight sports top, leg-warmers and sneakers, but you can also juggle and go for replacements like a tennis skirt and a simple tank top.

Hoodies are also cool to integrate in the outfit and don’t forget about hair and makeup, they are very imporant. Try to create a glittery colored type of makeup, draw icons such as stars or little hearts from makeup. Blue, green, silver and red are the best colors to choose from. Regarding hairstyles, the 2 tails is a must :))) Oh and don’t forget your pom poms! ;-)

Your Daughter’s Wedding

It’s really hard to select a good outfit for this occasion because you really need to be on your best appearance. There are heaps of stunning Mother of the bride dresses out there and you should be able to find something that makes you feel yourself and also makes you feel comfortable enough throughout the wedding party.

Not all the outfits include a seriously long evening dresses anymore and depending on your age and size you can easily adapt and accessorize the ensemble with simple refined jewelery or a fun clutch.

Le Deux Piece

I think that a soft warm toned color not too pastel or beige would be perfect. You can wear it with long or short-sleeved-jacket in the beginning and loose the jacket later in the evening. Usually this jacket has coordinated tone and materials and there are some custom made boleros have those small pearly details in soft patterns. I wouldn’t suggest matching a different color bolero because it can ruin the whole outfit.

Th clasic little black dress

This dress has no age and you can easily dress it up with some metallic accessories or an amazing pair of sandals. The lenght of the dress should have medium or ankle lenght in order to be able to still attend to your duties on the wedding day and not feel chained to the floor with a long dress.

Bold Choices

I also think a tailor made suit with pants would be a great option. You can wear it with a satin or silk top and a gorgeous wrap.  You can choose other trendy choices if you have the looks and a younger spirit, like a floral pattern dress, a one-shoulder dress or a lace detail dress.

What to wear : Prom Night

In my opinion, Prom Night should be something to remember forever :) and I know you, girls try so hard to get everything perfect before the big night. There are lots of cool styles to try this year and as we have discovered in our poll this week, you like all kinds of dresses! So, here it is : a showcase of the hottest dresses including celeb looks for less.

Princess dresses

You have to try on at least one princess dress in order to understand what it feels like. Even though they are maxi dresses and have a lot of volume they are still smashing because they stand for universal beauty.

Short Dresses

If you think there’s going to be a lot of dancing a short dress is the perfect option. A short dress might be just the ticket to show off some sexy legs and some smashing shoes. Even if you like a neons or pastels, you can get inspired from Vanessa Hudgens or Ashley Tisdale who rock some amazing short styles at a red carpet event and you can actually find heaps of amazing similar Prom gowns to get the look at affordable prices.

Mermaid Dresses

These are probably the most common red-carpet style ever. They are chic and extremely figure-friendly and you get get extra points if you choose a one-shoulder dress or a cut-out back style. These dresses are usually very tight and wrapped around your body so you’d better work out before the event :) or choose a tough fabric that elongates your body and makes you slimmer.

Prom Night : Coming Soon!

Pink Outfit with Sninny Leggings for this Valentine’s

I particularly loved this badge that says I kissed a vampire and I liked it, mostly because I love Katy Perry’s song and Twilight so these 2 combined are still cool :)) This outfit is all about making the most of this Valentine’s! Even if you’re single, it doesn’t matter! Just get dressed and get in love. I’ll help you with half of this. :)

The top - Solid washed favorite tank, JCrew. There are lots of tanks out there but if you want to pull a sexy look you should go for a simple bold color tank or even a black sexy one. Remember, less is more and you don’t want to overdress this ruffled skirt.

The boots - High Ankle Boot, TopShop - Everyone must onw some ankle boots by now so it’s easy to find ones. This sexy skirt also looks amazing with sexy peep-toes or some sandals, but you should keep in mind that it’s still early spring.

The leggings - Glossy Open Heel & Toe Leggings, Forever21 - Always feared of wearing shinny leggings, thought they’d look ridiculous on me, but when finally tried them on, they instantly became my favourite leg-wear. They are perfect for the evening, they make you look skinny and sexy and they go well with ankle boots.

The lingerie - Pink flock spot set, Debenhams. Sexy lingerie should be a must even if it’s not Valentine’s Day.

Makeup - Juicy Gloss, Coach . If you plan on kissing much you should replace lip makeup with heavy eyemakeup and keep you lips nude. It’s much sexier and clean. :))

Accessories - Kenneth Jay Lane Silver Star Pendant, My-Wardrobe.comFabulous Flower Clutch, Boden. Try to wear something special, maybe a gift from your boyfriend or some other lucky charm. It will make you more confident and more attached to this night.

Vintage - skirt and leather jacket. The leather jacket is an essential item this spring, that’s why I can’t stop recommending this :). Try a high waist ruffled skirt or a black sequin skirt if you’re going to a club or some drinks in a bar. You can never go wrong !

Valentine’s Day Hot Purple Outfit

I couldn’t stop admiring this Suede Panel Clutch. Topshop never stops amazing me :).  I love that it has that bohemian undefined shape that is really cool, even if trends are switching towards a more structured box shape. You can mix and match it easily with some gold chained charm accessories like this Four Row Bow Charm Necklace from Wetseal or a Crystal circle ring.

Why not look really hot this Valentine’s and go for a strapless sexy dress. There are lots of shapes so even if you aren’t so gifted you’ll still be able to pull off this look.

For smaller sized cleavage : You can try a shorter dress maybe a babydoll one that pulls the focus onto something else (eg. your legs)

For bigger sizes :  You can enjoy a knee lenght dress because it really makes you look taller and slimmer.

Oh and don’t forget about the heels, they’re essential for mind blowing points! You have to try managing some platforms or at least some booties to complete this outfit. I love these sandals from Forever21 but I guess a lot of people loved them since they have sold out since I’ve saved the photo. I’ve found some cute peep toes instead here.

And there is this jacket on Collete.fr .  I just fell in love with it! It  has that modern rock look because of the black leather and the studs, you’ll love it. However, a leather jacket could go or even a cropped blazer, because the DRESS+ROCK JACKET trend is still out there!

And for hot Valentine’s Nights I just love Lolita Lempicka. BTW, What do you think of solid perfumes ?

Happy VD!

Wear a Sexy Dress this Valentine’s Day

Because there is a time for joy this Saturday on Valentine’s Day, I figured I would brake the routine with this cool sexy outfit in my favorite colors this spring Gold and Ink / Navy. If you don’t like navy or you planned to wear red you can replace navy with that and you’ll get the same look. You can always change the tone of the accessories and go to a more silver look but no matter what metallics are still hot.

I would wear this outfit out on a date for Valentine’s to some drinks or to a club. The heels are not so terrible so you’ll be able to stand and even dance a couple of songs.

I love this ruffled tank-dress mostly because it can be worn at night but casual too, it’s a sort of hybrid :) The navy shoes have the same “feature”. I just love their color!!!  They’re both available on Forever21The accessories make this outfit more glamorous and add a touch of sparkle to it. You can wear  Marjorie Baer Bracelets and a Double chain pendant necklace because they both have a colored enamel touch. A golden clutch fits the scene perfectly and you’ll surely love the Swarovski ‘Golden’ diamante from this bag from Gina’s.

If you’re in the seductive Valentine’s Spirit, go for deep red nail polish a sweet Moschino fragrance and a high shine Chanel gloss .  Match a deep eye shadow and you’re done.

That’s it! Enjoy!
