Weirdest Designer Accessories Spring-Summer 2009

Designers go mad this spring with some of the craziest accessories. Fringes, clogs, muls and extreme platforms are poised to be the next big coolness. However I have serious doubts that these trends will get into our spring wardrobes so easily.

Wedding Style 2010

When choosing the perfect wedding dress, the key elements you need to look for are comfort and tailoring. Although the dress may be amazing, it can never look smashing on you, unless it’s personalized for you size and shape.

There are lots of great gowns out there that set the trend guidelines for this year, so even if you are tall, boyish or you are shopping for plus size wedding dresses, you will definitely find something that will suit you perfectly to walk down the aisle in great style.

The Goddess Dress

The Greek-inspired look floats on one shoulder for a subtle sexiness effect. This look can be applied on several types of silhouettes because of its flowing line.

The Strapless Gown

This shape is upgraded this season with embellished pearls or other type of embroidery. This should focus on a single element and the embellishments should be in the same tone and feel as the dress.

Color Accents

Colorful sashes and details add a modern touch to the classic wedding patterns. Color schemes can make the whole event feel brighter and more fun. Think your favorite color but don’t overwork it. Use at most 2 colored details or if you are brave you could try a two-toned dress as well.

Sleek Diva

It is a fact that the column and trumpet type dresses are now very up-to-date.  These classic choices are wonderful options if you have a well structured body type and they are the gowns that highlight your curves the most.

Tiered and Layered Dresses

Multiple layers of tulle, chiffon or even feathers are the next big think in wedding fashion. The romantic drama look can easily fit into any picture, because it is a classic eternal look. The oversized type-A turns into a princess look  due to the volume added by the various layers.

Rihanna - Setting the Fur Trend

Rihanna has been showing off this season some hot fur accessories. Despite justified PETA complains, I really believe fur/ true or faux is a key element of the cold season. The glamorous options include either the complete fur coats or just some fur insert. Fur is something that really stands out so be careful not to overwork it. You need to focus on at most 2 fur pieces - if they are sort of similar, otherwise you will look like a furry christmas tree :)

I really like the Juicy Couture cardigan and the pom pom hairband on ASOS, I think it’s very chic and playful. Also, the Nordstrom furry options are really amazing. If you want to make  a statement pairing black fur and golden sequins is very glamorous way to do that.

Rregarding the brown Nordstrom trenchcoat, well… I think I could wear that every day :)

What about you ? Would you wear them?

Sparkly Legs for Fall 2009

Fall has gently taken oven and so have the bared leg substitutes. How else are we supposed to wear skirts and long tops, right girls? I checked out some runway styles and came accross a cool trend that emphasizes that leggings shouldn’t be boring and we should have some fun with them. Zac Posen and Miu Miu have said YES to this trend and so shops have started to get this thing moving also.

And if you’re looking for hot stuff to buy online I found some cool options at ASOS (left image -$63.83 and right image - $91.19 - Costume Dept. Optical Leggings ) and even some cheaper stuff at Forever 21 (in the center - $13.8).

Jeans TRENDS for Fall 2009

Jeans trends this season are somewhat predictable: mostly skinny jeans are cool and ankle lenght is hot too. Dark colors are also the thing to wear this fall and I assume 2009-2010 is a great year to show off great ankle boots or long sexy booties. Hillary Duff tries a classic flared pair of navy/black jeans for fall 2009 while Jessica Szohr, Gossip Girl star chooses a lighter ink splash skinny pair of jeans. I love Sienna Miller’s jeans and I love how she matched the jeans with the loose studded caramel booties. Very cool for a casual look!

The webshops are quite stuffed of cool jeans so I think it’s all comes down to what to really like and what suits you well. I am eager of trying grey jeans, acid wash and tie-dye. The color palette for fall is usually darker and deeper so dark grey is a totally must-have this season.

1. J Brand - Acid wash skinny jeans, $180, net-a-porter 2. Current/Elliott’s skinny jeans $240, net-a-porter 3. BDG Ankle-Length Cigarette Jean, $64.00 UrbanOutfitters

Summer Sunglasses

Summer 2009 sunglasses are all about color and brights and retro shapes. I’ve seen fucshia and even teal colored frames and  so I guess we are reinventing the stunning older styles. Today it’s all about the cool meter and how high you are on its scale.

Stars are usually our inspiration for these kinds of things as they have their stylists and it’s much easier to get good examples this way. I love Ashlee Simpson’s glamouros big cat-eyes sunglasses because it’s a style that will never be pasee. Christina Aguilera’s white shades and Reese Witherspoon’s aviators are also some really cool options and they are perfect for small round faces.

Asos - Retro Clear Frame Sunglasses, Forever21 - Plastic Square Sunglasses, 80’s purple - Large Metal Mirrored Aviator Sunglasses, Mango - Juana Sunglasses

What I Hate About Balmain

Balmain Padded Shoulders

Please don’t freak out, it’s not like I’m gonna ruin your perceptions about the gorgeous Balmain Spring 2009 collection…but I have to say it out loud : I hate the huge padded shoulders! There, I said it and it wasn’t even that hard.

I know they are pretty trendy this season, but I can’t imagine wearing them at all. I am particularly reluctant because I keep seeing the ’80s and ’90s image of my mom in my head and how she kept retouching them underneath her blouses or jackets because they kept sliding :)).

I even found a funny video on YouTube, a DIY video from ELLE in which they are showing how to create your own shoulder pads. Poor Johanna, she looks terrible in my opinion!

The New Dresses

As spring has fully taken its right on the thermometer, we should start discovering the new pieces of this season. It’s warmer now and it’s easy to accessorize these fabulous styles. These dresses are poised to become a huge part of any spring wardrobe and you will that they are also very much figure-friendly.

The Shirt Dress

The first item that probably caught your eye by now is the shirt dress. Even if you like the casual shirt dress (Pacsun) or you choose a more glamorous cocktail option, the shirt dress can be a terrific option. I personally love the plaid one because it has a super casual style and can be worn with both flats and heels. You can pair it with a short, cropped jacket as seen on tons of fashionphilles. The cool nude leather jacket (Doma) is a spot-on style this spring and you could accessorize it with metallics.

The Floral Dress

Another hot key piece is the floral dress. There are heaps of gorgeous options out there and you can also play with the size too as both the mini and the maxi are stunning hot. I saw lots of florals in the shops and I couldn’t help noticing that some of them have really crowded prints. I don’t recommend you wearing a bouquet of flowers on your dress, but choosing something romantic and versatile. For example an artistic floral pattern might be just the ticket for a casual office look.

The material of the dress is also important as this is the thing that chooses the time of the day that you should wear it. Go for something opaque during the day, like cotton and  try to keep the sheer options for later at dawn :) If your dress is short  and soft transparent and you want to wear it during the day you can wear it with leggings or opaque thighs.

The maxi dress is easier beacause it practically covers you all up. I’ve seen it worn with Converse sneakers and cropped jeans jackets and they lookes relly cool. You can also match them with flips flops or wedges for a summer look, but we’ll get into that in a future article.

The floral print dress can be paired with black statement heels (Balmain - in the pic) and cropped jacket (H&M). The edgy accessories give this outfit a note-worthy look (sunglasses - Topshop, clutch - Miu Miu, necklace - Ann Demeulemeester).

The Tunic

This top / dress is poised to because a really big thing as it’s the most versatile of all of them. You can imagine wearing as a dress if it’s long enough or with shorts, jeans, or leggings. Some pieces of this outfit  are already on the March Hotlist and you already know all about the ripped denim trend.

There are tons of hot options in the shops, I especially love the tunics that have this houglass shape and are casual and sexy.  The embroidery can be cool on tunics and it gives them a bohemian chic look (Check out some Vanessa Hudgens styles).  If you can’t afford a glamorous version like this one (Calypso Juna smock top - Net-A-Porter) you can choose a simple tunic and then style it up with a skinny belt or some long necklaces or oversized earrings (these are Wetseal).
