SHINING TRENDS

It’s funny how many magazines have chosen to feature the dotted pattern in their editorials this fall. Even if this focuses on dresses, blouses or even tights you can practically see that the polka dotted designs are becoming a rising trend for fall 2011. I’ve seen them in the fall collections for Marc Jacobs or Diane von Fustenberg but now it’s time to see them in action. So get inspired!

I just love this mix! It’s official : shirts and skirts make quite the perfect outfits for this summer season.

I have actually started to notice several fashion bloggers who are hitting the streets with pretty cool interpretations of this look. The general guideline is to keep the outfits part smart – part casual. So a pretty relaxed skirt would look best matched with a simple shirt and vice versa. The hottest shoes seem to be the shoe-boots, however the summer heat can indulge multiple forms of footwear.  I just love the wooden platforms right now and I think they’d look awesome in an outfit like this. Will definitely give it a try this week.

Chiara from TheBlondeSalad.com and Emily at CupcakesandCashmere.com make a pretty good choice with the light jeans shirt which pretty much counts for a basic piece for putting together this entire look. Love the nude shoes! :X

I’ve taken these 2 looks from Lookbook.nu and my-wardrobe.com and they particularly caught my interest because of the cool pattern skirts. Even though the shirt is simple, it is the signature piece of the entire look because it manages to bring out the cool effect on the skirt. Like a white canvas

Mary Kate and blogger Keiko Lynn match the shirt to a lady-like midi skirt. I think this combination is pretty surprising but it somehow manages to bring the midi to more casual and modern peaks. Would you try it? I sure would….

No, this is not London,…but it’s an equally cool place in Vienna called the Hundertwasser-Haus and it had this red phone booth outside which looks so like London! I am wearing my striped aka. “convict” dress from H&M ) a leather jacket from Zara which I also wear on top of my Mango maxi dress

My newest obsession is the Shirt Dress! I’ve bought two amazing dresses from Next and I can’t wait to wear them. Even if you choose a maxi shirt dress like Olivia Palermo wears from Mango or you decide to go for a shorter version – > I have, you won’t feel sorry at all. The shirt dress is such a cool and relaxed style for summer not to mention that it allows you to sport all sorts of footwear, starting with flats or wedges or even high-heels.

My favorite looks are of course from Asos: BLUE, PINK and KHAKI, but I will be uploading my own looks very soon!

I am attending a wedding in August and have just bought this dress. I would be really grateful if you could advise on what would be the best way to style my hair to suit this dress.

First of all V, your coral maxi dress is amazing!!! I am a huge fan of summer weddings and I think that it’s the perfect time to have the dream garden wedding party, despite the high temperatures that the month of August brings. Therefore this should also be reflected in the way you style your hair.

Forget tight, sleek, perfectly pulled hair-dos, as they are completely not applicable in the hot season. This also goes for straight hair, it will definitely get frizzy and you will feel like your hairstyle is getting “curly”.

Instead, try to think of volume and loose waves. I think it also depends on the length of your hair. If you have longer hair, I think the perfect choice would be to pull it up or back, or create a side hair-style.  Braids can also work and all those bohemian hairstyles.

Shorter hair can either be let loose and combed to a side – the side where you don’t have the ruffle.

I really like the hair-styles sported by Olivia Munn and Mila Kunis and that you can also accessorize your dress with a pair of amazing earrings, just perfect for the coral goddess dress that you have.

I love the entire silk dress + leather jacket mix. I think it’s perfect to drift into the night extravaganza. The jacket is from Bershka, my dress is from ZARA and so are the shoes.  I can’t remember what bracelets I had worn, but you can go for something statement. I think it suits the outfit even better.

My current obsession is LEMONADE, or better CITRONADE )

I just love these colors, they are so fresh and alive, so mouth-watering! In fact, the citron print has been very popular on the runways as well. Brands such as Moschino Cheap & Chic or Day Birger and Mikkelsen pioneered the colors and also the lemon prints  in their summer 2011 collections and since then, it has all bloomed. Or, so to say…the lemon has been squeezed

I think orange, yellow, lime or bright orange are the star colors of the summer season, besides the white and coral, of course. I really love Blake Lively’s outfit in her Glamour photo-shooting, soft white and orange is a perfect mix, so very feminine and fresh. I think this goes for the electric yellow dress which resonates so well with the bright summer sun.

Jamie Chung Lexington and Olivia Palermo wearing the signature citrus shades. You can get more inspiration from the citrus palette. Fun right?

As a general style rule, I would wear these citron shades with neutrals, so white and beige for a classy effect, however if you try brights in the evening you can most definitely choose a second bold accent such as electric blue, fuchsia or even gold – like in Brittany Snow‘s outfit.

Tonight I’ve been getting up to speed with some of my favorite and neglected Tv-shows such as Vampire Diaries, Love Bites and Gossip Girl. The last one is nevertheless huge fun and crazy outfit inspiration!I am not into the entire bitchiness scenarios and all the intrigues, however the clothes do make the show!

The entire “Dress like you are going to meet your worst enemy” approach really works for me.  No matter how hard your day was or how disappointing your friends may have been, it’s the getting up and being strong that prevails.  It’s a bit dramatic to think about it this way, but at the end of the day you are what you wear …

Here are the outfits I just love for this summer!

The Green Maxi Dress together with the entire beach ensemble makes me dream of resort collections and faraway islands. Pair your maxi with nice gladiator sandals and a boho straw hat for a perfect mix..

Ruffles and florals. What more can I say ?! Love the brown leather in this combo and don’t forget about a touch of sensual : loose hair,  transparent lip-gloss.

Even if Blake wore an empire maxi skirt, the impact would have been the same: Old Hollywood Glamour. Flared trousers say 70′s style and so do the over-sized jewels and the lingerie worn in the open. Daring, but why not?!

A touch of Street style – Blake and A touch of Banquet – Leighton. There has always been more drama around Blair and more sparkle around Serena. Which role do you play?

I really love this festival, nomad outfit that Blake is wearing. Not quite a maxi skirt but something in the likes of it: the layered outfit. Paired with a one-piece bathing suite / leotard and a casual jacket + sandals, the look can be quite stunning for a summer concert, festival or at the beach. But be careful S, for you might turn some heads in the city looking like this

Vanessa keeps it boho-chic and print-friendly. All her outfits are eclectic and share this open vision towards fashion. The mix between high and low is maybe the best for her character, for she does not quite afford the high-maintenance life that others are living. So she goes for layering, being creative and trying versatile items and accessories. Extra chic points for the clogs, fringe details and the jeans vest.

The perfect Parisian duo. The moon and the sun, the fancy and the dreamer. I love this pair.
